The Grace Of God Extinguishes The Catholic Dogma Of Purgatory

  • The Catechism Of The Catholic Church Defines Purgatory In The Following Way:
-"The Church gives the name Purgatory to this final purification of the elect, which is entirely different from the punishment of the damned. The Church formulated her doctrine of faith on Purgatory especially at the Councils of Florence and Trent. The tradition of the Church, by reference to certain texts of Scripture, speaks of a cleansing fire: As for certain lesser faults, we must believe that, before the Final Judgment, there is a purifying fire...From this sentence we understand that certain offences can be forgiven in this age, but certain others in the age to come." (CCC #1031)
  • It Would Make No Sense To Believe That We Need To Pass From Death To Purgatory, When Jesus Christ Himself Said That We Would Pass From Death To Life:
-"Amen, amen, I say to you, whoever hears my word and believes in the one who sent me has eternal life and will not come to condemnation, but has passed from death to life." (John 5:24)
  • Rome's Doctrine That We Must Have Venial Sins Atoned By The Cleansing Flames Of Purgatory Is Proven Wrong By The Absolute Sufficiency Of Christ's Expiatory Work:
-"But he was pierced for our sins, crushed for our iniquity. He bore the punishment that makes us whole, by his wounds we were healed." (Isaiah 53:5)
-"You must know, my brothers, that through him the forgiveness of sins is being proclaimed to you, [and] in regard to everything from which you could not be justified under the law of Moses, in him every believer is justified." (Acts 13:38-39)
  • God Purifies The Human Heart By His Grace Through Faith:
-"He made no distinction between us and them, for by faith he purified their hearts...On the contrary, we believe that we are saved through the grace of the Lord Jesus, in the same way as they." (Acts 15:9,11)
  • The Lord Does Not Count Trespasses Against The People Whom He Has Declared To Be Righteous Through Faith:
-"Blessed are they whose iniquities are forgiven and sins are covered. Blessed is the man whose sin the Lord does not record." (Romans 4:7-8)
  • The Catechism Of The Roman Catholic Church Flatly Contradicts The Biblical Message Concerning Atonement, Forgiveness, Salvation, And Grace When It Teaches That Christians Must Undergo Condemnation After Death:
-"Hence, now there is no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus." (Romans 8:1)
-"For God did not appoint us to suffer wrath but to receive salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ." (1 Thessalonians 5:9)
  • We Know From Scripture That Purgatory Is A False Doctrine Because Once Christians Pass Spiritually From This Life Into The Next, The Set Norm Is That They Immediately Enter God's Presence:
-"So we are always courageous, although we know that while we are at home in the body we are away from the Lord...Yet we are courageous, and we would rather leave the body and go home to the Lord." (2 Corinthians 5:6, 8)
    • No Sins Need To Be Expiated In Purgatory Because They Were All Nailed To The Cross Of Christ:
-"And even when you were dead [in] transgressions and uncircumcision of your flesh, he brought you to life along with him, having forgiven us all our transgressions; obliterating the bond against us, with its legal claims, which was opposed to us, he also removed it from our midst, nailing it to the cross." (Colossians 2:13-14)
    • The Roman Catholic Claim That Transgression Needs To Be Expiated In Purgatory Has Been Demonstrated To Be False Through The Lord Jesus Christ's Vicarious Atonement Cancelling Out the Effects Of Our Sin:
-"if that were so, he would have had to suffer repeatedly from the foundation of the world. But now once for all he has appeared at the end of the ages to take away sin by his sacrifice." (Hebrews 9:26)
    • There Is No Room For Purgatory In The Christian Walk Because Christ's Sacrificial Work Cleanses Us From All Sin:
-"And He is the radiance of His glory and the exact representation of His nature, and upholds all things by the word of His power. When He had made purification of sins, He sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high." (Hebrews 1:3)
-"But if we walk in the light as he is in the light, then we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of his Son Jesus cleanses us from all sin...If we acknowledge our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive our sins and cleanse us from every wrongdoing." (1 John 1:7,9)

      1 comment:

      1. The whole idea of purgatory is against the gospel of Christ. Christ died to purge our sins, so what is purgatory for? And just where is it found in the Bible? Here is what I DO find in the Bible:

“Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high.” Hebrews 1:3

“But he that lacketh these things is blind, and cannot see afar off, and hath forgotten that he was purged from his old sins.” 2 Peter 1:9

Purgatory has always been a method Rome has used for controlling their people. It has also been a method by which the Roman church has enriched itself selling indulgences to shorten time spent in purgatory.

Our sins have been purged by Christ already. To say otherwise is no less than heresy.
