America Should Not Be Rejecting The Bible

  • Introduction:
-Although the First Amendment does not allow for the establishment of any particular religion in our governments, it is abundantly obvious that the United States was originally founded on Christian principles as recorded in the Bible. Consider, for instance, that our National Motto is "In God We Trust." Also, examine this excerpt from the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag, which is as follows, "One nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all." The Supreme Court utters this invocation daily: "God save the United States and this Honorable Court." Thus, it can easily be said that the foundation of our nation was constructed on the moral teachings of the Bible because Christianity has been inscribed into governmental function since its beginning with the fifty-six men who intrepidly signed the Declaration of Independence in Philadelphia on July 4, 1776. In fact, all who signed our Constitution were professing Christians, with the exception of Benjamin Franklin being a deist. Now, it would be wise to examine a few quotations from our Founding Fathers to prove that America was originally founded on Christian principles:
  • The Words Of George Washington As Documented In His Farewell Address, September 17, 1796:
-"Of all the dispositions and habits which led to prosperity, religion and morality are indispensable supports. In vain would that man claim tribute to patriotism who should labor to subvert these great pillars of human happiness-these firmest props of the duties of men and citizens...reason and experience both forbid us to expect that national morality can prevail in exclusion of religious principles."
  • Quote From Thomas Jefferson, The Third American President Who Drafted And Signed Our Declaration Of Independence:
-"God who gave us life gave us liberty. And can the liberties of a nation be thought secure when we have removed their only firm basis, a conviction in the minds of the people that these liberties are of the Gift of God?"
  • The Words Of Our Second President Named John Adams Who Also Singed The Declaration Of Independence:
-"Suppose a nation in some distant Region should take the Bible for their only law Book, and every member should regulate his conduct by the precepts there exhibited! Every member would be obliged in conscience, to temperance, frugality, and industry; to justice, kindness, and charity towards his fellow men; and to piety, love, and reverence toward Almighty God ... What a Eutopia, what a Paradise would this region be."(Diary and Autobiography of John Adams, Vol. III, p. 9.)
  • The Words Of Patrick Henry, A Person Who Ratified The United States Constitution:
-"It cannot be emphasized too strongly or too often that this great nation was founded, not by religionists, but by Christians; not on religions, but on the gospel of Jesus Christ. For this very reason peoples of other faiths have been afforded asylum, prosperity, and freedom of worship here."
  • Why We Need The Bible Taught In Public Schools:
-Because our nation was indeed founded upon the moral precepts of Christianity, and the Bible is a historically accurate document, it follows that our educational system should be using the Bible as a textbook of our heritage. It should be used in the establishment of our nation's moral foundation. Furthermore, posterity needs to be taught how to think in accordance to objective facts and reason, rather than with blind desires or emotions. Unfortunately, the public school system rejected biblical authority through the U.S. Supreme Court rulings in the cases of Engel v. Vitale (1962) and Abington School District v. Schempp (1963). Consequently, liberal ideologies have quickly been corrupting the minds of our youth. We see an undeniably high statistical disintegration in our moral conduct in areas such as teen pregnancies, abortions, homosexuality, higher proliferation of sexually transmitted diseases, drug/alcohol addictions, a much higher overall crime rate, and even lower SAT scores. The United States has become a much more bitterly divided nation, as well. Prior to the abandonment of biblical principles and the suppression of public prayer, these actions which were once abhorred occurred very scarcely. In other words, our society was in a much healthier state than it is now! This is what happens when a nation forgets God. While people should have the right (as long as the safety and rights of other people are not violated) to practice their religions and uphold their own worldviews apart from the fear of persecution, we should still not abandon the moral principles of Scripture because they are the principles of Freedom. In truth, the First Amendment was enacted to stop the Federal government from establishing a particular "denomination". Liberals are only fighting for a perversion of freedom, rights, and human dignity. Abandoning the Bible as a standard to govern our thoughts, words, and actions is just as foolish as removing the foundation from a household.
  • Secular Humanism (i.e. atheism) Was Officially Defined As Being A "Religion" In The Rulings Of The Supreme Court During The Case Of Torcaso v. Watkins (1961). This Was Done With The Intention Of Allowing People Who Do Not Affirm The Existence Of A Supreme Deity To Freely Express Their Opinions, Views, And Concerns Without Fear Of Persecution:
-"Among religions in this country which do not teach what would general be considered a belief in the existence of God, are Buddhism, Taoism, Ethical Culture, Secular humanism and others."
  • Final Thoughts:
-Therefore, atheists should feel utterly embarrassed when they attempt to remove the presence of God from our society (especially when they appeal to the First Amendment for support). What they are in reality trying to do is demolish our religious freedom by enforcing a strictly secular government on us (which is forbidden by the same amendment they abuse because humanism is technically a "religion")--double standard.

  1. The Constitution has been so twisted to be anti-Christian that there is no resemblance to the original meanings. The gov't actually paid for Bibles to be sent to the NW territories so as to promote the teaching of religion.

The founders saw Christianity as the State religion, and what they were forbidding was the government from having a national denomination as was the case in Europe. Which is why there Bibles and Bible teaching in schools, and prayer in schools, etc.

As for teaching the Bible in school now? NO!! Since the Constitution has been twisted by activist judges, the only way you could teach the Bible in school would be if you also taught the Koran, The Book of Mormon, etc. Which is why we don't want pray led by or promoted by schools: Whose prayer? Whose God? You open the doors to even worse than we have now. I see the best alternative for Christians is either private Christian school or homeschooling.

    1. Hello Glenn,

Thank you for the thoughtful response.

People should be able to practice their religions apart from having fears of experiencing persecution or discrimination (i.e. religious freedom), but the operational processes of the government are supposed to work in accordance to "biblical" principles. And yes, it is a terrible misfortune to see that many of our court judges (and others) have been deceived by the liberal interpretations of our amendments (which are straightforward for the most part).

But anyway, our public educational system has indeed raised a double-standard against us by allowing students to practice the religion of Islam as recorded in the Koran. Further, atheists have raised a double-standard against us by trying to silence our voices through the misuse of the First Amendment (which can equally be used against them).

  2. Great job, Jesse!

I agree wholeheartedly. Many people today are not aware of our humble and God-directed beginnings as a nation.

I am amazed at how “politically correct” everyone is trying to be. We can’t hurt anyone’s feelings lest we “marginalize” certain groups. And we need to “celebrate our diversity.” You know, all religions are equal, so we have to include everyone! This is utter stupidity.

Thank you, Jesse, for speaking the truth. I wish many more Christians would do just that.

But I didn’t even realize you had an article on this topic. I just posted an article on this on my other blog. I’d really like you to take a look at it. See here:

Keep up the good work, Jesse. With God’s help, we can make a difference.

    In His name,
    Russell

    1. Hello Russell,

I appreciate your encouraging comments, and your ministry for the Cause of Christ. I'll be sure to leave a comment on your article about the common abuses of the First Amendment by liberals. Hopefully, more people will learn the importance of planting seeds of faith into the minds of those who are unlearned or doubtful of God's commandments through the preaching of the Glorious Gospel (1 Corinthians 3:6-7).

  3. If I had kids, I would definitely home school them, not only do i believe the bible teaches that we should teach our kids (Deut 4:9-10, 6:7, 11:19, Prov 1:8, Eph 6:4). I believe parents are responsible to God for how they raise their kids, and I wouldn't want my kids ( that is if i had them) going to a public school where they could learn cuss words, sexual perversion, and Darwinian evolution taught as fact. To me, sending them there wouldn't be very loving. Again If i had kids I would control what they watched, spend time reading the bible to them, would be privy to who they hanged out with, etc. At the moment i'm not Mentally / financially ready for kids but I just thought i would share some advice to some parents out there.

If you get a chance, that is if you want to there is a man named Voddie Baucham who speaks on this issue.
