The Type Of Beauty That Really Matters

"Your adornment should not be an external one: braiding of hair, wearing gold jewelry, or dressing in fine cloths, but rather the hidden character of the heart, expressed in the imperishable beauty of a gentle and calm disposition, which is precious in the sight of God." (1 Peter 3:2-3)

Although the immediate context addresses Christian wives, this passage of Scripture contains a principle that is certainly applicable to us all in regards to beauty. Possessing true beauty is not equivalent to having an attractive physical appearance, but is much more based on purity of heart. It is about maintaining good conduct, which should be a reflection of internal beauty. In other words, who we are as people matters more than having fashionable hair and clothing. God cares more about an individual's state of heart than He does about earthly trends. We should strive for love, truth, and humility. We need to reflect God's righteous character. Trying to have an appearance that satisfies the people of this world has no practical relevance. The opinions of man are subjective and ever changing.
